Online Reputation Management: Online Reviews – Don’t Be a Victim

Many traditional businesses still maintain the notion that they can have full control of what happens to their brand online. But in this highly an interactive world of social media where anyone practically has a say about anything and has the means for expressing so, the business and branding the landscape has drastically changed into something much more delicate – something that can place your online reputation at the mercy of other people’s hands. Among the most delicate of these channels are online reviews, with many businesses and brands falling prey and succumbing to damages to their online reputation.

There are many ways a brand, professional name, or a business can fall prey to negative online reviews. The most common among these perpetrators are scam boards publishing erroneous, misleading and inaccurate reviews about your products, services or brands. Many of these scam boards would exploit a single negative comment from a customer with a bad experience and let it blow out of proportion. Competitors would soon go in for the kill and feed fuel to the already raging inferno burning down your online reputation.

While you may not be able to remove these erroneous and negative entries about your products and brand (or it would take you a considerable length of time of thousands of dollars in lawyers’ fees), with Online Reputation Management strategies, you can dominate search engine results and prevent negative entries from ever coming out on search engine results – and turning off potential customers.

You can bury negative content down to SERP oblivion by using online reputation management strategies to fill the web with positive content – material that is true and positive, and most especially under your control.

How to Handle Negative Publicity

Even if you do everything right there will be times when you will have to face negative publicity. A negative comment can come for any reason like varying points of view, misunderstanding, someone having some grudge on you etc.

But it is very important that you remain calm.

Being human, our natural reaction to anything negative is anger. And the worst thing you can do at that point of time is react without thinking and make the situation even worse. But instead I think you should take a deep breath and ask yourself some basic questions like:

Is it true?
Was I misunderstood?
Am I being honest with myself?
You may also walk to your trusted friends to discuss the situation.

Response

Do respond to the negative comment if it is true and take it as an opportunity to rectify those mistakes. Tell the world the steps you are taking to amend this problem.

You may also respond by making a post on your blog or website addressing the situation. And make sure that you do not personally attack the other party as this can call for more negative publicity.

Also it is not necessary that you respond to everything. If you think that the best way to handle the situation is to ignore it then ignore it. If you feel the impact is not all that big then don’t fuel the fire by pleading when it’s not necessary.

If you are unable and confuse what to do and how to get rid of negative publicity then get help from online reputation experts.
